Chelsea Supporters Petition: Rename the Spackman Entrance!

By Fitz on 24-Sep-2009 at 11:21:56

BlueTinted has agreed to publish the below from one of the clubs loyal supporters, largely because...well...we agree! So if you nearly erupted when you heard Spackman make it quite clear just WHO his heart was with in the Champions League ties between ourselves and Liverpool, then check out the below..

Petition Organiser: "It is not a personal attack on Nigel Spackman - though clearly his aired thoughts as to which former club his loyalties lay haven't done him justice. I feel there are many more just causes who should be recognised for their contribution to the history of the football club.

Spackman played 140 games and assisted us in winning the Full-Members cup which is laudable, but if you lay that against the contributuons of Wise or Vialli it 's nothing. Personally, I believe after the death of Mr Mears, he and his family's contribution should be recognised - but it would not be for me alone to decide, of course, but the vote of the fans."

So there you have it. For those unfamiliar with what Nigel said, it was essentially that his loyalty lays with Liverpool and he hoped they beat us. That's fine, his loyalties are his to align, but in light of this the naming of a part of Stamford Bridge for this ex employee no longer stands up to scrutiny when compared to the contribution of other fantastic figures in the clubs rich history.
