Steven Gerrard's World Cup Diary: Part 4

Friday 11th June, 6am. Ha ha. I got up early, sneaked into the kit room, and hid all the new Jabulani balls.

I'm going to keep them all for myself and so I'll look even better than everyone else, even more than I already am! I am the captain after all.

8am. While I was at breakfast, Mr Capello was running around shouting about something. Not sure what (nobody is), but it looks bad. Mr Pearce looks worried as well.

This is the third day in a row that I had to eat breakfast on my own. The lads always let me (as captain) go and get my food first, but that means they all go and choose their seats in the meantime. I went to sit next to Mr Pearce on the end, and talked to him a little bit about how good I am at scoring goals and winning cup finals on my own, until he remembered he'd left his shower running, and hurried off. I saw him a minute later outside having a cigarette.

3pm. I should never have hidden those balls. Everybody was looking for them all morning. I was too embarrassed to admit that I knew where they were. Those were the only balls we had, so Mr Beckham went off to the nearest Tesco (or whatever) to get some for us to practice with before the match tomorrow. He could only find plastic ones, so we have to make do with those.

8pm. Another brilliant day's training, I scored some great goals with the ball. Every time I had a shot at Robert, who is a brilliant goalkeeper, the plastic ball wobbled and he kept spilling it into the goal, ha ha! He is starting to look very nervous, but I just tell him that it's because I'm so good at scoring goals.

First match tomorrow! Very excited.
