I am going to sit next to Jamie on the plane, he is my best friend. He wasn't going to be allowed to come but when I found out I was vice captain I asked Mr Pearce really nicely and he sorted it out. I did want to sit next to Rio so he and I could talk about how we are going to captain the team together, but Rio said he needed to talk to John about playing in defence. But it's OK.
I have packed my travel Uno and Pass the Pigs, I am looking forward to the flight.

9pm. Off we go! It turns out that South Africa is not an island off Spain at all, it is off the south coast of Africa, hence the name. Frank told me this, laughing. He is very clever. He must know how to count up to a hundred at least. I am sitting with Jamie at the back of the plane like we do on the coach back in Liverpool. I tried to persuade Rio and John to come and sit on the seats by us, but they wanted to be at the front so they could see Africa before us, they said. Rio is excited about engaging with the local customs and culture, as well as seeing some sights of breathtaking natural beauty, he said. Then John said "phwoar" and did a thing with his forearm and all the boys laughed, but I didn't understand. Frank explained that it's something to do with girls, which reminded me of my wife Alex back home. She is lovely, and she doesn't smell at all. Sometimes she tries to cuddle me but it's all icky and I have to go for a run straight away. She used to get cross at me for this but now when she wants a cuddle she just goes out for a drive and comes back a while later feeling much better.
11pm. I was talking to Jamie about how good I am at football, but he said he needed to get some sleep so I went for a walk and sat down next to Mr Pearce because Mr Capello wasn't in his seat. I like Mr Pearce. I started to ask him who is taking the penalties for us, and he went quiet and gripped onto his arm rest so I stopped. Then Mr Capello came back and started screaming at me. I couldn't understand what he was saying. Mr Pearce explained that Mr Capello gets very cross when people don't stay where they are supposed to. I went back to my seat, and all the boys were laughing, it was very funny. Rio said I was good for morale, and Frank said I was a phallic member of the team, which I think must mean 'important'.
I'm looking forward to training tomorrow. I will score as many goals as I can and make Mr Capello say I'm the best player we have got, which I probably am. Me and Jamie.
