New Chelsea Signing: Arsenal are full of sweet talk.

By Doctor Gonzo on 08-Jul-2010 at 12:51:33

Having seen the amateur Chelsea website feeding frenzy over the last couple of days, struggling in their own parasitic way to tell you what you already know (I.e the signing of Tomas Kalas as benignly announced on the Chelsea Official website days ago in their Academy update – then announced as ‘Exclusives’ and ‘Breaking News’ a full 24hr later once one site had got wind..Rant over!) – we thought we’d do a little sifting of all the dross and have uncovered what appears further evidence of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger’s rather…slimey..approach to youth recruitment.

Kalas, during an interview some time ago with Czech website denik.cz, amongst many questions surrounding his decision to move to Chelsea after one more season with his current club, commented..

(Upon being asked about being called by Arsene Wenger regarding a move)

“Well, not so much, they called me. When we were in England, my father and I went with the agents and Mr Wenger called us.

When he learned we were there he told me how he would take me under his wings and that he would take care of me, how it would be great for my development and I should go to Arsenal.

It would probably affect people in different ways. I stand my my decisions. At the time my future had not been resolved, but if I had chosen them, I would have given in and been attracted by sweet talk. I never have been and probably never will be.

Arsenal wanted me to leave immediately. Why should I stay in Olomouc, when I could leave now and train in such fantastic conditions? But, to me, it was the most vital part of the deal, in terms of language, in terms of strength, and in terms of experience.

How could I go to Arsenal after just one match in the first team?

Specifically, it decided that I would not go to Arsenal. They wanted me to move immediately, or perhaps after six months.

But giving Sigma (Sigma Olomouc, his current club) just six months would be unfair. Why would they look to develop me if they knew that in six months I’d be gone."

It sounds like we have a lad with a decent sense of right and wrong, and obviously very good tast in football clubs! Furthermore we see confirmation of the long-suspected candy-coating that takes place with Arsenal’s youth player recruitment. We would ask any young player to monitor the progress at Chelsea in recent years, and the progress at Arsenal of ‘prospects’. The turnover is high, the discard rate is frightening.

As mentioned, this isn’t a BlueTinted exclusive – it HAS been reported on other sites. The reason for pointing this out? Well, when we have an exclusive (and we DO have some big news very soon, once clarified) you’ll be first to know and it won’t be regurgitated.
