Chelsea are champions of England again, and in such an emphatic manner. It seems like we only win trophies in record-breaking style, from the 1997 cup final goal, via the clean sheet record, to this season's record number of goals.
Simply outstanding.
You know it's been an incredibly good season when reaching a scoreline of 5-0 feels like a chance to score a serious number of goals. We went into the match flirting guiltily with thoughts of the astonishing seven goal routings we've seen this year, and imagining with our mental tongues tucked into our hopeful cheeks that we might pull off a similar feat today.
(Personally I was fully prepared for a spectacular no-show, and even at 1-0 we looked vulnerable to nerves.)
Still - a fair slice of fortune (which, I must say, we are going to feel is owed to us for many years to come) saw us annihilate a team who won the fixture earlier in the season, and set the stage for some joyous scenes.
Drogba may have acted like the prom queen who's had someone vomit on her dress, but thankfully the man-management skills of Ancelotti (and according to some reports Michael Ballack) put paid to any possibilty of a sulkfest, as a second half hat trick earnt him the Golden Boot - making him the fourth Chelsea player to achieve the accolade since 2000.
So congratulations to the team, who earned every moment of their ecstatic celebrations this evening. Kudos to all the fans who turned the Bridge into a cauldron of emotion. And last but not least, well done to Carlo Ancelotti, who's first season in England has earned Chelsea a Premier League trophy (with the FA cup still to be won) in record-breaking fashion.
As if we ever did anything any other way?
[Also: well done Bish.]
