The papers are predictably rammed full of hyperbole on the subject, with the Sun daubing the front page of it’s publication today with the grandstand news – on a player that writes for that very paper.
We can expect more of the same from the News of the World tomorrow, in shovel loads.
The Football Focus panel largely decided JT should be stripped of the captaincy, more piousness from various blogs, fanzines, fan sites and webforums has been aplenty.
So then...what to make of it?
Let’s break this down into bite-size chunks.
1) Man cheats on wife. “Shock horror” when partnered with the fact he’s a footballer. See teammates Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.
2) Slip up is with a friends girlfriend or ex girlfriend. Hmm. Not good John. Not good at all.
3) He should be stripped of the England captaincy.
4) His ‘Chelsea future’ is in doubt. Righto.
As reports are starting to include, this indiscretion occurred over a year ago. So whilst JT and Wayne Bridge were teammates. The fact that Terry was carrying on with the girlfriend of his teammate is a damning reflection on his role as club captain; let’s get something straight now, what someone does outside of work – as long as within the boundaries of the law – is their business. But with a teammates girlfriend? A friends girlfriend? Come on John, you know as well as everyone else that’s bang out of order and more to the point can be damaging to your clubs morale and cohesiveness.
As fans we pay to see footballers do the job they’re paid to do. The fact is John Terry has never let Chelsea FC or England down in the period of his captaincy of either entity. He has been made a captain by Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti and Fabio Capello. If you were to make a list of managers currently in the game make the bulk of a list of ‘greats’ – there it is.
Johns captaincy of Chelsea and England has been excellent. I’ve no doubt this afternoon it will continue to be excellent against Burnley for the club.
The fact this occurred throughout his tenure as captain with club and country and no doubt has been known within the circles of his teammates means this has not had an adverse effect on performances or with the respect of his peers.
“Terry should lose the England armband” – why?
To be replaced by Steven Gerrard? The man who recently was embroiled in a court case with CCTV footage of his drunkenly attacking another man.
To be replaced by Rio Ferdinand? The man who ‘avoided’ a drug test, was subsequently banned, and has just been penalised for punching an opponent in a league fixture for his club.
Perhaps Wayne Rooney? Serial hothead with form for public embarrassment in the shape of sleeping with an aged prostitute, who’s sending off in the last World Cup contributed to his countries exit?
Frank Lampard? Club colleague and best friend. Who allegedly cheated on his partner in Las Vegas.
Ashley Cole? Say no more.
Perhaps John should take some lessons from the late great Bobby Moore, a player he is so eager to emulate. The legendary England captain is a role model for all future post holders. Oh, hold on..
I look forward to Match Of The Day tonight, presented by a well known England striker for his views on the subject..
Listen, the question really is who is the best man to captain Chelsea and captain England? It’s John Terry. The only way that will change is if there is a division in either squad caused by this issue, if not, then leave it alone. Let’s not get involved in the mass hypocrisy currently doing the rounds with fans and pundits alike.
You have forgiven others this exact stupidity, let’s not rupture England’s chances in a World Cup year for the price of some indignant posturing in a greasy spoon cafe whilst leafing through some worthless tabloid. You’ve got more sense than that.
And as for you John? If you read this ever: you silly bastard. Seriously. A mates ex or girlfriend?
But if I were you I’d be looking at the activity of an ex associate if I were you. One who’s interests are now best represented by making financial gain from the disclosure of your dirty laundry.
Blue Tinted supports England, Chelsea and John Terry – for better or worse he IS our captain, leader, legend.
