BlueTinted Competition Result: We have a winner!

By Fitz on 21-Dec-2009 at 21:02:23

Our recent competition asked entrants to let us know in 100 words or less just which goal since that fateful day in 2003 has ‘summed up’ the Roman era to date.

Firstly we’d like to thank all of the entrants, we got a wide variety of suggestions and actually many of them steered clear of some of the more obvious ones. All in all though it was great to see everyone’s personal opinions on which goal in the last 6 years has summed up ‘New Chelsea’ – a term so often used in derision by the media and some of our more short-sighted fans.

Since our billionaire Russian bought the club there have been many, many ‘key’ goals – Bridge vs. Arsenal at Highbury, Lampard vs. Bolton at the Reebok etc.

When looking in detail the Roman years of Chelsea have been punctuated by smaller ‘cycles’ of the team, the philosophy, the vibe and the success. It is with this in mind that when viewing the entries we settled on something a bit ‘different’ and very relevant to what we feel represents Roman’s ownership of the club.

Clinical, breathtaking, a team.

“I'd like to nominate Drogba's 89th minute away goal against Bolton in this seasons Premiership.... Anelka crosses to Deco, who chips it to Lamps and he gives it a cheeky back heel right to Didier's feet. Nothing more for him to do than gently guide it into the back of the net. This goal for me involves three of the best signings in the Abramovich era and a Chelsea legend in Frank Lampard.

That goal was one of those moments in football of such pure class, quality and skill that it truly took my breath away so has my vote.”

This from Mandylou – Currently 16th in the Blue Tinted Premier League and a user of the prediction sites since year dot.

Drogba’s goal vs. Bolton has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of Ancelotti’s reign to date.

Jose’s was Bolton away in 04/05.

Avram’s was the Champions League against Liverpool.

Scolari’s was 2-0 vs. Villa at home.

Wilkin’s, of course, was Watford!

Hiddink’s was the FA Cup Final win against Everton.

Ancelotti is a new cycle. A settled club. Top of the league. Top of the Champions League group. And so far this new cycle has been summed up by a goal of such class, craft and chemistry that it will stick in the mind of many as ‘one of the goals of the Ancelotti era’.

Let that be a long and successful era at that.

Well done Mandylou, well done all. Have a fantastic Chrismas, thanks for supporting the site – and thanks to our affiliates at No.1 Fan for donating the prize for this particular competition.
