BlueTinted Introduces: Mr Heskey - Chelsea, a view from Senegal

By Heskey on 18-Dec-2009 at 09:18:45

Here at Blue Tinted we try and be as explicit as possible that this site is for fans to utilise as much as consume, and after casting our net far and wide in the search for something a bit different to reflect modern Chelsea we were contacted by the very interesting Mr Heskey. First things first, the name is a bit of a sore point we know! But as he shares the name of the..sporadic...English forward we’ve let this one pass. There are no questions however on the allegiance of this particular Heskey as we hope you’ll see! So welcome, Mr Heskey, and we look forward to your thoughts and how Chelsea is viewed from your particular part of the world.

"Regarding how I am supporting the Blues here in Senegal, I will answer that it dates back from 2004 before Ivorian striker Drogba plays for the team.

I used to watch closely Chelsea and at that time I was not yet a big fan but was already charmed by the way they played a blend of talent and power, for instance we had in the squad guys like the gifted Gianfranco Zola and go-getter Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

From that point, I got my mind made up about supporting the squad." (not a bad time to get involved! Ed.)

"However a decade ago, the English premier league did not have such a big impact here in Senegal, apart from some juggernauts such as Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea was the lonely English squad people could debate on. The team had just integrated the big four. "

(I had asked Mr Heskey whether big name African players such as Drogba, Essien, Mikel and Babayaro..*cough*...had strengthened his decision to support the club..)

"Drogba's signing has nothing to do with me supporting the squad. He was playing for Marseille and was not specially my favourite (things have changed now of course).

Now, it's past to me and now I want to move forward with the team and all CFC fan's club worldwide. Reason why I get in touch with you and see how together we can extend and promote the Blues to other parts of the globe. I gonna write about Blues as much as I can, will do my best to involve people here and I can hold round tables (discussions) with them, explaining them how things are getting on with the English fans since they don't speak English."

So there you have it! We intend to develop this link with our African support as time goes on, and as such we invite you to let us know any questions about the way Chelsea are supported in Senegal and we will relay them to Mr Heskey and get his views! Keep an eye out for more soon.
