Specifically, questions about Chelsea's ability to turn a good start into a winning season.
A week or so ago, Chelsea were being widely tipped to walk away with the Premier League title and being seen as one of the favourites for the Champions League. Now, the strength of the squad, the form of a number of players and Carlo Ancelotti's tactics are all being questioned.
While it's been a disappointing week, I don't think there's any reason to panic. In fact, the argument can be made that the last few results will stand the team in good stead over the coming months.
First, we have seen a couple of young players more than hold their own. Kakuta looked excellent in the game against Apoel. He was quick, skillful and aware of his team mates' positions. He played a major part in the Drogba goal and put in an excellent performance. Borini too looked very lively when he came on, with good movement and was unlucky not to score. Bruma will have benefitted enormously from the Blackburn game, playing at the heart of a defence under pressure due to having to play with 10 men for an hour or so.
Ancelotti will have learned a lot about some of his youngsters from these two game and will have liked what he saw.
The Man City result, and performance, was the most disappointing of the three. Again, Ancelotti will (or at least, should have) learned a fair amount about his team, especially his midfield, from this one. Essien is not a Makelele and should not play the holding role. Playing him there nullifies much of his threat. In addition, playing Lampard, Ballack and Deco in the same midfield means we are too static and one-paced. Hopefully Ancelotti will know that now.
Despite the poor performance, we could still have got something out of the game, had Drogba taken one of his chances, or if Lampard had put away his penalty.
So, one bad defeat, one loss on penalties and one draw in a dead rubber European game. It's not ideal, but we could hardly have chosen a better week in which to slip up a bit. We're still two points clear and have plenty of winnable games coming up. A blip can be of benefit, as long as lessons are learned. Let's hope they are.
It's not a crisis though, and not even close to being one. Just ask a certain tubby Spanish waiter...
